"Celebrating its 20th anniversary on the 26 September, 2022, the Bread Museum will launch on that same date the first edition of a prize that will be awarded every three years to three disciplinary areas: Nutrition/Food, Food Engineering and History and other Social Sciences," announced the group that owns the museum.

This year, the scope of the award will be Nutrition/Food, in which "researchers who are authors of validated master's degree dissertations or doctoral thesis, presented at higher education institutions in Portugal and that fit into the annual thematic area of the award" may apply.

Applications must be submitted by 18 May, 2023 on International Museum Day, and will be analysed "by a jury of excellence that will announce the winner on the anniversary day of the Museum of Bread in 2023, in a ceremony in person”.

The winner of the prize will be recognized with the publication of their work in a book, under the seal of the Museum of Bread, and will also win a stay for two people, for one night, in a hotel in Coimbra.

The Bread Museum which opened in 2002 "is one of the greatest references of museology in Portugal and the largest complex dedicated to the subject in the whole world", said the company that owns the museum, in a statement sent to Lusa.

"It is one of the most visited museums in Portugal, with the particularity of being located in Seia, in Serra da Estrela, and welcomes, annually, thousands of people who like to learn about the most universal of foods, share moments and relive memories."
