In the first six months of 2022, foreigners bought around
790 residential properties in the Lisbon Urban Rehabilitation Area (ARU),
representing an investment that amounted to €403 million, according to data
released by Confidencial Imobiliário.
"In this period, the average investment from foreigners
was 509.0 thousand euros and the acquisitions were carried out by buyers from
60 different countries".
"The amount invested by foreigners in this period is in
line with the half-yearly average levels of the last three years, positioned
between 360 euros and 390 million euros", it can be read.
However, this is "a 32% reduction compared to the
previous semester, but this period saw a record investment of €592.5 million,
reflecting an anticipation of acquisitions due to changes in the eligibility
criteria for golden visas".

As I walk around Porto and see probably 20% of buildings dilapidated and abandoned, there are plenty of homes available. They just need rebuilt.

As many Portuguese with their meagre wages (about 32 000 Euros or US$/year) are now not even able to pay for basic groceries, rich foreigners snap out houses and properties in droves, taking advantage of the policies of the Portuguese government!
