According to ARAC – National Association of Vehicle Rental
Companies, rent a car companies bought a total of 2,264 light vehicles in October.
According to a report by Publituris, despite the increase in
vehicle acquisitions compared to the same period last year, ARAC says that
“this year there has been a significant drop in the number of vehicles acquired
by rent-a-car and rent-a-cargo companies compared to the previous year and
especially compared to 2019 (pre-pandemic crisis year)”.
ARAC explains the drop in acquisitions with the fact that
the production chains of car manufacturers continue “far from pre-pandemic
levels, as factories continue to lack semiconductors for incorporation into
vehicles, with currently thousands of cars produced parked waiting for the
supply of semiconductors”.
The Azores and Madeira are, according to ARAC, the regions
of the country where there is the greatest scarcity of vehicles available,
followed by the main national “areas with a strong tourist impact”,
specifically the Algarve, Porto and Lisbon.
