"With the country 'stopping' to watch the football team
at the Qatar World Cup, Fixando estimates that, for professionals registered on
the platform, this stop represents around €2.8 million that will not be billed,
since 24% of self-employed say they will stop work to watch the game",
reads a statement reported by Notícias ao Minuto.
Which sectors will register the most losses? "Home
services, which include gardeners, painters or plumbers, represent the largest
share with estimated losses of around €1.2 million, followed by event
professionals (€960,000) and technical assistance services (€175,000)".
As for employees, "only 9% revealed that they had been
informed by their employer that work would be suspended so that they could watch
the game, with 31% defending that they should be able to stop work during the
matches of the Portuguese team".
In the Algarve, majority of Portuguese knock off work for any and all kinds of reasons. Then they complain that there is poverty..... a total lack of work ethics in the Algarve.
