Taking into account the most recent data on the new visa to
look for a job in Portugal, which came into force at the end of October 2022,
Ana Mendes Godinho also advanced the increase in the number of foreigners with
an active presence in Social Security.
“The presence of active foreign workers working in Social
Security is now 630,000, a value that compares with 10,000 in 2015”, advanced
Mendes Godinho.
The Minister of Labour also revealed that the creation of
Social Security at the time, a simplification instrument that aimed to
facilitate the entry of foreigners into the formal economy, “allowed the entry
into Social Security of 340,000 people who were outside the system”.
The government should enhanced the Portuguese university' qualifications while attracting foreign human capital for lower qualified jobs. That's how an advanced economy works. It is revolting the self-appraisal of the Minister on social security contributions of foreigners, since that's nothing more than a legal obligation for any worker. If the system was routinely audited there would be much more.
