This data was taken from a study carried out by the Qustodio platform, specialised in security and digital control for families that has more than four million users worldwide.
Every year, this platform analyses how minors use the Internet: the hours they spend in front of screens, the applications and networks they use most and the consequences that hyperconnectivity can cause.
The study analysed trends and the use of screens by minors between the ages of 4 and 18 in four countries - Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia - with around 400,000 families participating anonymously, according to data provided by the platform and cited by the agency Efe.
Social networks once again became the main digital attraction for minors in 2022, an indicator that is repeated in the four countries where the study was carried out.
TikTok clearly outperforms among the social networks such as Instagram, increasingly used by people over 30 and 40 years old.
Among video games, the most popular continues to be Roblox in the four countries, with the time that minors spend daily in this game exceeding two hours, according to the data collected in the study.
Among online video platforms, Prime Video had a big lead among minors, although it still lags behind Netflix and YouTube, which remains the favourite among young people to watch videos in the four countries.
Twitch, which grew 150% in 2020, the year of confinement, again recorded a slight decrease last year.
I'm shocked at how much Portuguese parents seem to rely on screens for their kids. Before kids' ballet class: girls watching iPads. In Restaurants at the table: kids watching iPads. At the mall while mom shops for clothes: kids watch her iPhone.
At the beach: kids watching iPads and iPhones. On public transport: kids watching iPads and iPhones.
But the worst thing I have ever seen was recently: a Portuguese woman walking on the street with her son, around 10 or 11. years old They stop next to me at a red light. The kid is wearing headphones and watching an iPad!!! While walking on the street! While CROSSING the street!!! I could not believe my eyes.
Here's a wild idea: Ever tried TALKING to your kids?
