However, according to CNN Portugal, Portugal is the sixth country in the EU with the lowest rate of overqualification of professionals. Only Luxembourg, Sweden, Denmark, Czech Republic and Hungary have fewer professionals who are considered to be overqualified.

Although Portugal is the sixth country in the European Union with fewer overqualified people, the trajectory followed has been in the opposite direction. The percentage has been gradually worsening, and in 2022 it will be the highest in at least eight years (15%). In 2015, the percentage was 13%.

In terms of gender, last year, there were more overqualified women (16.8%) than overqualified men (11.9%). But Portugal is not alone. In 19 out of the 27 Member States there were more overqualified women than men, with Malta (11 percent), Cyprus (8 percent), Italy and Slovakia (both with 7 percent) being the countries where the gender inequality was most striking.
