The number of workers in Portugal increased by 4.2% in the first three months of the year compared to the same period in 2022, reaching 4.5 million jobs, corresponding to Social Security beneficiaries and Caixa Geral de Aposentação subscribers, reveals the latest INE bulletin and reported by idealista.
And the real estate and construction sectors are among the top 10 economic activities that hired the most in the first quarter of 2023, as the number of workers increased by 9.6% and 6.4%, respectively. At the end of March, real estate had 54.8 thousand workers and construction with 331.6 thousand people employed.
But have wages also increased? INE data say yes. In construction, total gross remuneration increased by 8.5% between these two moments to 1,051 euros per month (on average). In the segment of real estate activities, wages rose less (7.3%), however, settling at a higher level, at 1,173 euros per month.
