“It is certainly one of my priorities. I would say that the teaching of the Portuguese language is, obviously, a priority and above all fundamental, not only because it is a language that has dimension it has, an impact it has and the valences it has, but also because Belgium is a country with a Portuguese community of around 70,000 people,” said Jorge Cabral, speaking to Lusa.
For this reason, “it is very important that the second and third generations do not lose contact with the language and mastery of the language”, he added.
After presenting his credentials to King Filipe of Belgium, on May 3, the new ambassador told Lusa that “everything that benefits the greater dissemination of the Portuguese language and, above all, the expansion of teaching possibilities, is positive”.
