“From now on, the Portuguese fintech for the purchase and sale of cryptocurrencies from the holding company 2TM will be authorised to provide safekeeping and management services for virtual assets or instruments that allow controlling, holding, storing or transferring these assets, including private cryptographic keys,” the company explains in a statement.

Cited in the document, the executive president and co-founder of Mercado Bitcoin Portugal, Pedro Borges, noted that the authorisation will allow the company to “reach institutional investors, such as investment funds and managed portfolios”.

Mercado Bitcoin Portugal, formerly Criptoloja, claims to be the first cryptocurrency broker authorised by the BdP, to obtain a license to operate in the Portuguese market.
