Aya Nakamura, Wizkid, Little Simz, Davido and Booba are other highlights of an event that the organisation classifies as "the largest festival of 'afrobeats' in the world", held "in a unique setting", on the sandy beach of the Faro district.
"Afro Nation is global and unites people from all over the world. The festival receives fans from more than 140 countries, as well as a significant number of Portuguese people", a source from the organisation told Lusa, highlighting the "high-quality standards" of the event, "both in terms of production value and in terms of the experience for the public".
The Nigerian singer Burna Boy, a repeat visitor to Praia da Rocha, where he was last year, heads the first day of the festival, on Wednesday, which also features Aya Nakamura, a French singer of Malian origin known for "Djaja", Popcaan, Ayra Starr, Oxlade, The Compozers, Nelson Freitas, Nissi and Camidoh.
The entertainment in Praia da Rocha continues on Thursday, with Nigerian musician Wizkid and British 'rapper' Little Simz as headliners. Asake, Tayc, Bnxn, Black Sherif, Victony, Ms. Banks and Tyla take the stage on the same day.
The third and final day of Afro Nation, on Friday, will feature American hip-hop star 50 Cent, Nigerian musician Davido and French rapper Booba, as well as performances by Fireboy DML, Vegedream, Gabzy, Sauti Sol, Gyakie and Soraia Ramos.
The festival's programme also includes more than twenty other names, including musicians and several DJs, which will be divided between two stages located on the beach of Praia da Rocha.
In 2023, with "the continued growth of the brand and the 'afrobeats' movement worldwide", the Afro Nation organisation told Lusa that there is "a growing demand for tickets".
Afro Nation only admits people over 18 years old, according to information available on the festival's website.
.When I went to look at the tickets, ALL tickets are sold out.... And even the cheapest package was 499€/pp. Wow!
