The measure, which has been applied to plastic packaging for over a year, would be extended to more types of packaging from Friday, September 1, but a new ordinance pushes the date back to January 1, 2024.
The amendment was published in the Diário da República and determines that “the contribution on single-use packaging applies from 1 July 2022, for plastic or multi-material packaging with plastic, and from January 1, 2024, for aluminium or multi-material packaging with aluminium”. Until now, the law indicated that the latter would be subject to the rate from the 1st of September.
In the diploma, signed by the Secretaries of State for Tax Affairs, Nuno Félix and for the Environment, Hugo Pires, it is explained that the postponement takes into account “the constraints expressed by various economic agents”. He also mentions the “need to broaden the scope of application” of the measure “to other materials”.
This is not the first time that the Executive has postponed the entry into force of the 30 cent tax on aluminium packaging. This measure had originally been set to come into force on January 1, 2023, but, at the end of last year, the Government postponed the rate to September, now extending its entry into force to January 2024.
Anyone else sick to their teeth about governments infringing on every single aspect of our lives, while corrupt politicians rob us blind, fly private, organise fancy get togethers, and buy luxury beachfront properties?
I am sick and tired of being told what to eat, how much to eat, where to smoke, how much to drink, how much to travel, how to drive, what straw to use, what bags to use, what boxes to use, when to use electricity, when to use water, how much water, how to breathe, what to inject and how much to inject!
As long as I pay my taxes and am not a criminal I WANT TO BE LEFT THE FEG ALONE!
