A project by Lorena Travassos, photographer and teacher of Visual Culture/Photography, the bookstore has “books written by women (cis or trans)” on its shelves, from various areas (fiction, comics, children’s books, history, gender studies, poetry ), as well as magazines and graphic novels.
Virginia Woolf, Clarice Lispector, Agustina Bessa-Luís and Natália Correia are some of the authors highlighted in the window that opens Greta's official page (https://www.gretalivraria.com/), which also includes feminist and 'queer' publications and a children's book section.
The priority is “to make available books that were published in small publishers or by self-publishing and that, therefore, are not available in large bookstores”.
The aim is to reflect “gender issues” of today and “make accessible the high-quality publication that is being produced [on the subject], but which has no space”.
The specialised bookshop will host conversations, workshops and book launches, assuming itself as “a safe place for the meeting and debate of themes that are sent to the LGBTQIA+ communities, immigrants and Afro-descendants from all over the world”.
The literature for sale will be exclusively authored by women, but the space is open to anyone who seeks “a fairer and more ethical world”.
