The company's CEO gave an interview to the Financial Times, in which he admits his intention to go “beyond travel”. Offering leases for longer terms therefore represents a “huge opportunity”, said Brian Chesky, highlighting that the company wants to be more present in users’ daily lives.

In the second quarter of this year, only 18% of reservations through Airbnb had deadlines longer than 30 days. Furthermore, according to the British newspaper, reservations for periods longer than three months are even rarer, meaning the manager believes there is a market to explore.

Little else is known about Airbnb's new strategy. The person in charge wants to expand the business in the area of experiences and said that other ideas are being considered, such as offering car rental services, for example.

It is not yet known whether the company plans to launch any of these new features on the Portuguese market. The platform is considered one of the main Local Accommodation markets in the country, at a time when Portugal is experiencing a serious housing crisis, in which many of the new rental contracts are established for terms of one year.
