On September 4, the Porto Merchants Association launched a public tender for the rental of decorative lighting, electrical infrastructure and a Christmas tree for Porto, with a base price of 460 thousand euros.

In a telephone interview with the Lusa agency, Rubens de Carvalho, executive director of the Porto Merchants Association (ACP), said that, in the public tender, the number of streets covered is practically the same as in 2022, the year in which 90 streets received Christmas lighting, and, for this year, the minimum number launched for the competition is "91 streets".

The number of decorated trees will increase by 10% compared to 2022, he said, adding that the Christmas tree, which is traditionally placed on Avenida dos Aliados, will be more than 30 meters high and 15 meters in perimeter.

Rubens de Carvalho said that, like last year, when there was a limitation on Christmas lighting times, between 18:00 and 23:00, due to the energy crisis, it is likely that this same limitation will be repeated again.
