"In Campolide, almost everything is ready to start excavating the 1st tunnel of the Lisbon General Drainage Plan, which will connect Monsanto to Santa Apolónia", highlighted the CML in a post on X (formerly Twitter), in which it includes some images.

The Lisbon municipality revealed that the space is "the size of a football pitch", and will be built "25 meters underground".

After the completion of this work, "the excavation of the 2nd tunnel between Chelas and Beato" will begin, which will be "around 1 km".

"Both are expected to be completed in 2025", highlights the CML, adding that "the work will mitigate the impact of floods in Lisbon by around 80%".
