The previous record, which was reached in 2019, was 38,061 new companies created in the first nine months of the year.
In a statement, Informa D&B reports that two-thirds of sectors register growth in the creation of companies compared to the same period last year. Highlights include Transport, with 4,729 registrations (+1,596 registrations; +51 percent), Accommodation and catering (+394 registrations, +11 percent), Construction (+344 registrations, +17 percent) and General Services (+ 331 registrations, +16 percent).
Real estate activities are the sector with the greatest decline in company formation (-400 formations, -9.7 percent), a trend that has been observed in the majority of the last 12 months. Other sectors to record declines are Information and Communication Technologies (-146 registrations, -5.8 percent) and Industries, the main national export sector, whose number of registrations in these 9 months of 2023 was the lowest of all years.
The main point should be if they employ highly qualified Portuguese or not. If businesses are being created for the sake of tourism, restaurants or shops, is better they are not even created in the first place.

More important for Portugal's competitiveness is how does incorporating here compare to other countries in the EU. How many days does it take to set up a new company? How much does it cost? How much does it cost to administer it on an yearly basis?

Hope that the Government will do their job well, so companies won't go banrupt!
