The resumption of normal production at the Volkswagen car factory, in Palmela, in the district of Setúbal, also means the end of the 'lay-off' regime, which foresees a drop in income for workers that can reach up to 33% of their salary, but at Autoeuropa it was only 5%, thanks to an agreement between the administration and the Workers' Committee.
Autoeuropa suspended production on September 11 due to a lack of parts from a factory in Slovenia that was heavily affected by the floods that occurred last August.
Initially, the company planned to resume activity on November 12, but the Volkswagen group, in the meantime, guaranteed the supply of the missing part from a Spanish and a Chinese supplier, which allowed it to bring forward the resumption of production, albeit partially, in October 2nd.
With the resumption of normal production announced for today, the approximately 100 temporary workers who had been laid off by Autoeuropa in September also return, although with the guarantee that they would be called back as soon as the company's production was normalized.
