According to the Henley Passport Index, in second and third place in the ranking of countries with the most powerful passports in the world are Germany, Spain and Italy (second place, with access to 190 countries) and Austria, Finland, France, Japan, Luxembourg, South Korea, and Sweden (third place, with access to 189 countries).

At the opposite end is Afghanistan: Afghans can only travel to 27 countries without a visa. Among the countries with the weakest passports in the world are Iraq (29 countries) and Syria (30 countries).

The Henley Passport Index measures global travel freedom in terms of access to visa-free or visa-on-arrival countries, based on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and is updated in real-time throughout the year as changes to visa policies come into effect.
