Lisbon City Council states that access to residents is assured, as well as loading and unloading (between 06:00 and 10:00).
“With the aim of mitigating the effects of the concentration of people in the Chiado area during this festive season, increasing pedestrian safety and allowing their free movement, road access will be restricted on weekends, from December 22nd to December 7th. January, from 9pm on Friday until midnight on Sunday”, the note reads.
Among the streets that will be affected are Rua Garrett and Rua Nova do Almada, from the intersection with Rua de São Nicolau - traffic will be diverted to Rua do Crucifixo.
Traffic on Rua Ivens, between the intersection with Rua Capelo and up to Rua Garrett, is also affected. In this case, traffic will be diverted towards Rua Capelo and towards Rua Serpa Pinto.
Rua Serpa Pinto will have restrictions between Rua Garrett and the intersection with Rua Capelo, with traffic being diverted in the downward direction of Rua Serpa Pinto.
There will also be restrictions on Calçada do Sacramento, between Rua Garrett and the intersection with Rua Almirante Pessanha (exit from the car park will be permitted).
The Lisbon City Council also recalled that until January 7, 2024, it will offer two free EMEL car parks, in Ameixoeira and Campo Grande, with a free Carris connection to downtown, with stops at Marquês de Pombal, Avenida da Liberdade and Rossio.
