According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), mainly clear skies are predicted for Friday, while it will be generally very cloudy in the northeast of Trás-os-Montes and Beira Alta until the early afternoon with weak to moderate winds from the north/northeast.

The forecast also points to the formation of mist or morning fog, especially in the northeast of Trás-os-Montes, in Beira Alta and in the river valleys, the formation of frost, especially in the North and Center interior, marked night time cooling and a small increase in maximum temperature.

The minimum temperatures on Friday will range between -3 degrees Celsius (Bragança) and 8 degrees Celsius (Lisbon and Faro) and the maximum temperatures between 7 degrees Celsius (in Guarda) and 17 degrees Celsius (in Faro).

According to IPMA, from Friday until the 26th, mainland Portugal will be influenced by an anticyclone located to the northwest, which will gradually move towards the Iberian Peninsula.

Therefore, days with slightly cloudy or clear skies are expected, with a lot of cloudiness until mid-morning, especially in the North and Center interior, where in some places it may persist throughout the day.

Weak to moderate winds are also forecast from the north/northeast, sometimes strong in the highlands, and will gradually turn to the east/northeast and weaken, with the wind expected to be generally weak from the 24th, Christmas Eve.

Until the 26th, the IPMA also predicts the formation of mist or morning fog, especially in the northeast of Trás-os-Montes, in Beira Alta and in the river valleys, and from the 24th onwards the probability of persistence throughout the day in the northeast increases.

On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, "a shallow depression at altitude centered near the Iberian Peninsula is expected, which could temporarily condition the weather with the possibility of precipitation occurring, but, at the moment, this scenario appears to be very unlikely" , says IPMA in a statement.

As for temperatures, the IPMA predicts values between 10 and 20 degrees, with the highest values in Alentejo and Algarve, and between 05 and 10 degrees in the interior North and Center.

The minimum temperature should generally register values between 02 and 08 degrees, with the highest values on the Central and South coast, and between -3 and 02 degrees in the North and Central interior.
