In a statement, Confidencial Imobiliário highlights that the last three months of last year were "the fourth consecutive quarter in which housing sales in the country stood at around 33,000 units", showing "behaviour that reverses the downward trend signalled at the start of the year and suggests that the market is recovering from the shock of rising interest rates".

"The resilience of the market is visible in the reduction in the year-on-year variation in the number of transactions", which went from -20% in the first quarter to -9% in the fourth quarter of 2023, "suggesting that the great impact of the rise in interest rates was absorbed at the beginning of the year".

Throughout 2023, around 131,700 residential sales will have been completed in mainland Portugal, 17% less than in 2022, 88% of which were used housing and the remaining 12% were new housing.
