In the ranking of the 50 best cities for 2024, published by Time Out Global, two Portuguese cities are included, Porto and Lisbon, which occupy 10th and 13th place, respectively.
According to the publication, New York is the best city in the world, ahead of cities such as Cabo, Berlin, London, and Madrid. Porto and Lisbon managed to surpass cities on all continents such as Los Angeles, Amsterdam, Singapore, Miami, Beijing, Dubai, Sydney, San Francisco, Barcelona, and Seoul.
The Time Out ranking is based on several factors, including the accessibility of food and drink prices and the number of leisure activities that can be done in the location, as well as a sufficient cultural offer. The feeling of residents, the ease of finding green spaces, as well as the community aspect which is also assessed.
The city of Porto opens the top 10, for several reasons, with one reason being its gastronomic tradition, where people “eat well, and drink better”. Furthermore, in this “wine capital”, according to the magazine, 98% of locals consider their city beautiful and 82% romantic. The richness of the tiles is another strong reason to love Invicta so much.
Lisbon shines in 13th place thanks to its light, viewpoints at the top of the hill overlooking the Tagus River, the terraces to enjoy the sunset, or the beaches just half an hour away. Time Out also highlights another feature that makes the Portuguese capital unique: the increasingly lively music festivals during the summer, including Rock in Rio, NOS Alive, Super Bock Super Rock, or MEO Kalorama.
You'd have to be hard up to believe anything Time Out has to say. Perhaps only relevant for 20-something disco bunnies looking to snort illicit substances in noisy bars and clubs. Of course they were always going to put New York at the top of the list.
