The President of the Republic praised the performance of hotel entrepreneurs in their ability to obtain excellent results in a difficult economic and geopolitical situation or with postponed decisions such as that of the new airport that will be “somewhere on the Portuguese mainland”.
At the opening of the 34th National Hotel and Tourism Congress, promoted by the Hotel Association of Portugal (AHP), in Funchal (Madeira), Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa invoked, in a video message, the difficult international geopolitical and economic situation we are experiencing to remember that it is at this juncture that tourism agents “have to continue relaunching” the sector. He added that tourism must be “of quantity”, but also “tourism of increasing quality”.
“Your response [to the challenges] has been exceptional. I have said it several times: they anticipate what needs to be done, they prepare, they foresee, they overcome labour problems – sometimes even resource difficulties of another nature, namely logistics”.
