Everyone is welcome and light refreshments will be served after the service.

The Service is being jointly organized and hosted by Christ The King Anglican Church and St Vincents Anglican Chaplaincy Algarve, Central division.

This year it’s a very special World Day of Prayer Service as it has been prepared by an ecumenical group of Christian Women from Palestine. The land in which Jesus was born, ministered, and died. Where the Christian faith began and is rooted.

Why is this service called World Day of Prayer? Because the prayer services start in Samoa as the sun rises and circles the Globe as a huge wave of prayer in native languages. This wave makes its way continually across the world until it arrives back in the Pacific as the sun sets over the American Samoa some 38 hours later.

The origins of the World Day of Prayer date back to the 19th century when Christian women initiated a variety of cooperative activities in support of women’s involvement in mission, at home and abroad. It is from such roots as these that World Day of Prayer has taken its present shape to become a worldwide women led global ecumenical movement of Informed Prayer and Prayerful Action.

During the Worship Service on Friday 1st March, we will look at stories of Palestinian women from different generations, and will be urged to bear with one another in love, despite difficulties and differences, and to join in prayer to bring an end to human suffering.

Please join us to unite with voices from all around the world as we pray for justice and harmonious solutions that would bring an end to human suffering. Our Service is open to all faiths and all peoples. We look forward to welcoming you.”
