The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, expressed his “deep gratitude” to the Republican National Guard (GNR), which he considered to be “a cornerstone in the Internal Security System”, in connection with the 113th anniversary which is marked today.
According to Notícias ao Minuto, “On the occasion of the celebration of the 113th anniversary of the GNR, the President of the Republic pays tribute to the unique trajectory of this Institution in the service of Portugal, recognising, in the same way, the active contribution of the GNR to the preservation of democratic values”, cited from a publication published on the President's website.
The head of state also highlighted that “since its foundation, the GNR has asserted itself as a cornerstone in the Internal Security System, continually adapting to the demands of a society in permanent mutation ”, even though has remained “faithful to the principles of probity, rigor and professionalism”, thus managing to achieve “the balance between tradition and modernity, characteristics that make it worthy of the trust and respect of the citizens it serves, in Portugal and beyond. borders".
“The mission spirit that each GNR soldier carries is the driving force that defines the Guard. And it is to the military and civilians of the GNR that the President of the Republic addresses, to express his deep gratitude for the commitment that transcends duty and that is manifested in the daily dedication to the security of Portugal and the Portuguese ”, he added.
Within the scope of this milestone, the GNR will hold a military ceremony at Praça do Império, in front of the Jerónimos Monastery, in Lisbon, as published on their Facebook page.
