The accident with the inflatable occurred at around 11:45 am, at the Carlos Goes Municipal Swimming Pool Complex, a source from the Baixo Alentejo Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command told the Lusa agency.
Also speaking to Lusa, the commander of the Vidigueira Fire Department, João Noronha, said that the accident occurred when the inflatable toppled over with some children inside.
The children, four boys, and a girl, all around 9 years old, and an educational assistant, aged 51, complained of body pain and were transported by firefighters to the emergency room at Beja Hospital for medical evaluation, he said.
Contacted by Lusa, the mayor, Rui Raposo, highlighted that the inflatable was one of the activities of the Vidigueira Kids Festival, which began today in the municipal swimming pools, organised by the municipality.
“I have already ordered the removal of this inflatable and, now, we are going to determine who is responsible”, he highlighted.
According to the mayor, regarding the festival, which takes place until Sunday as part of the World Children's Day celebrations, “as long as there is a guarantee of safety, and nothing puts participants at risk”, it will continue.
