The 20th edition of the music festival ‘Terras Sem Sombra’ will take place in Alentejo until November, and has Italy as a guest nation. The free festival program, which includes concerts, heritage tours, and environmental awareness initiatives, will pass through different municipalities of Beja’s district and feature a blend of contemporary and vintage music.
The festival, which has been going on for 20 years, started last weekend in Mértola, Beja. Moreover, the free festival schedule will also pass through the towns of Castelo de Vide (Portalegre), Montemor-o-Novo (Évora), Sines (Setúbal), Coruche (Santarém), and Beja, Ferreira do Alentejo, Odemira, and Vidigueira (all in the district of Beja).
According to José António Falcão, the event president, who made this statement to the Lusa agency, the public will have the opportunity to "hear repertoires that are still little known and artists who are making a difference on an international level" at the ‘Terras Sem Sombra’ festival. The event is being arranged by the Pedra Angular Association, based in Santiago do Cacém, Setúbal’s district.
Fifty years after the 25 of April, the ‘Terras Sem Sombra’ festival in 2024 will include the theme “‘Freedom, whoever has it calls it theirs': Autonomy, Emancipation, and Independence in Music (12th/21st Centuries)" to encourage contemplation on "access to culture and, in particular, to music." As Falcão stated, “Being able to write, perform or simply listen to certain musical works represents something that was not guaranteed, at all, for those who lived before democracy”, but “half a century later it has not yet become so for many of our citizens, due to lack of objective occasions of access to cultural enjoyment”.
