According to the National Institute of Statistics (INE), wine production increased in almost all regions of the country, with wines generally presenting a "complex structure and balance between alcohol content, acidity, and tannins."
Wine production registered a decrease of 6.9% compared to the previous campaign, worsened by the 20.2% reduction in imports.
Wine consumption decreased by 9.2%, "particularly with regard to wines without certification", says the national statistical authority.
Agricultural statistics indicate that in the 2022/2023 campaign, there was also a significant decrease in wine exports (-25.9%).
The beverage industry earned 3.7 billion euros in 2023, 166 million euros more than in 2022, with the "wine industry" contributing 49.5% of the total sales value (51.9% in 2022).
