“In June, all tourist accommodation establishments (hotels, apartment hotels, tourist apartments, guesthouses, local accommodation units, and rural tourism units) in the Azores recorded 476.9 thousand overnight stays, a figure 10.2% higher than that recorded in the same month last year”, reads the SREA tourism activity report.

In the first six months of the year, the region recorded around 1.7 million overnight stays, “representing an increase of 12% compared to the same period last year”.

The total number of guests during this period was 547,000, 8% higher than the same period in the previous year, and the average stay was 3.19 days, “showing a positive year-on-year growth rate of 3.7%”.

In June, overnight stays by tourists residing abroad (343.5 thousand) represented 72% of the total, “recording a year-on-year increase of 13.8%”.

The domestic market grew by 1.8%, reaching 133.3 thousand overnight stays (28% of the total).

Among the foreign markets, “the United States of America stood out as the main source market, with 67.7 thousand overnight stays (19.7% of overnight stays by residents abroad) and a year-on-year growth of 16.1%”.

In second place comes Germany, with 51.4 thousand overnight stays (15%), despite having recorded a year-on-year drop of 4.6%.

Spain follows, with 44.4 thousand overnight stays (12.9%), which recorded one of the sharpest year-on-year growths (39.6%).

Above Spain, only the Czech Republic (121.4%) and Poland (42.7%) saw a more significant increase in overnight stays compared to June 2023.

In contrast, Israel (-57.5%), Hungary (-17.7%), and Denmark (-14.7%) were the markets with the largest year-on-year decline.

Total revenue in the hotel industry reached 22.5 million euros this month (up 15.5%) and the average revenue per available room was 106.5 euros.

In rural tourism, total revenue was 2.3 million euros (up 49.9%) and the average revenue per available room reached 94 euros.

These figures are not presented for local accommodation, but according to the report, 17.9% of active establishments “reported that they had no guest movement” in June.
