The master student and collaborator of Joseph Beuys will live in Olhão from 2016 to 2023 together with the artist and dance therapist Nada Mandelbaum.
Föll succumbed to the effects of cancer in his adopted home of Portugal at the age of 74. The years in Portugal were among his most productive. Around 200 works were created during this time. This is also where his last major cycle, "Splitterstücke", was created. The 60 or so works are predominantly geometric in style, determined by the production process of cutting and joining.
Föll's partner Nada Mandelbaum has now put together a memorial exhibition for the artist's 75th birthday, opened on 11 August and can be viewed until October. It focuses on 12 previously unknown and never publicly presented works.
"It is a work full of surprises, just as I encountered it here when I opened the drawers of his paper cabinet eight months after his death. His large-format collages exude a decisiveness and clarity that then evokes certain contrasts and complements when compared to one another," says Nada Mandelbaum.
An exhibition of Föll's works will then follow in October in the library in Olhão, after which a presentation in Lisbon is being discussed.
