In a statement, the organisers of Porto Pride - a festival that has been held in Porto since 2001 and which celebrates the fight for the rights of the LGBTI+ community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual) - said that this year the event is “of special importance” in the context of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April.

After having passed through Parque da Pasteleira in 2023, Porto Pride returns to the city centre to, for three days, “give a stage to Queer visibility”.

The "Porto Pride Summit" conference at Porto Business School marks the beginning of the event, which also includes a "Warm Up Party" on the first day at Yotel.

On September 14, Largo Amor de Perdição will host the Arraial Porto Pride, an event where queer artists will take to the stage, starting at 4:00 pm.

Porto Pride ends on Sunday with an event that combines gastronomy and queer performances, the "Brag Brunch" at Hard Rock Cafe.

This year, several "prominent figures" are expected at the event, such as the director of EPOA - European Pride Organisers Association. Porto will host the national meeting of the association from November 1 to 3.

The organisation stresses, however, that despite the importance of the event, it faces "significant challenges due to the lack of public financial support".

"It is unacceptable that Pride events, which are essential for the promotion of human rights, are seen as second-class events. It is urgent that, both locally and nationally, support be more than symbolic", argues the coordinator of Porto Pride, Diogo Vieira da Silva, quoted in the statement.

As such, to ensure that Arraial Porto Pride, "the event's high point of visibility and struggle", takes place under the "best conditions", the organization has launched a fundraising campaign, with the aim of raising 5,000 euros to cover the event's logistical and technical costs.
