By 2026, it is estimated that 1,680 hotel units will open in several European cities. And one of the cities with the largest number of new hotels under construction is Lisbon.
The Portuguese capital is the third European city with the most hotels under construction by 2026, with 36 projects and 4,425 rooms, according to the “Europe Hotel Construction Pipeline Trend Report” by Lodging Econometrics, published in August.
In addition, Portugal stands out, being the fifth European country with the most hotels under construction in the next two years (114 projects, with 14,247 rooms), after the United Kingdom (306 projects/43,515 rooms), Germany (178 projects/28,637 rooms), France (120 projects/12,831 rooms) and Turkey (117 projects/17,856 rooms).
In total, the report estimates that 1,680 hotels will be built in Europe by 2026, providing almost 250,000 more rooms, continuing the growth trajectory already seen this year. “Most pipeline projects in Europe are concentrated in the upper luxury, luxury, and upper mid-range chain scales,” it further reads.
