According to data from the Bank of Portugal, compiled by Lusa, Portuguese workers abroad sent 1,989.14 million euros during the first six months of this year, which represents an increase of 1.01% compared to the 1,969.24 million euros sent in the first half of last year.

In the opposite direction, the sums sent by foreign workers in Portugal increased by 4.97%, rising from 284.25 million euros in the first six months of last year to 298.38 million between January and June of this year.

Brazilians represent the community that sent the most money to their country, accounting for more than half of the remittances sent, with 153.33 million euros in the first six months of this year, which represents an increase of 9.85% compared to the 139.58 million sent in the same period of 2023.

As regards Portuguese working abroad, the largest volume of remittances came from France, with more than 25% of the total — emigrants in France sent 536.87 million euros, just 0.22% below the 538.08 million they sent in the first six months of last year.
