Now that children are back in school and we're settling into our routines again, we'd like to remind everyone about the value of volunteering at the Portimão Canil. The dogs eagerly await their walks and social time - and they need your help!
We were thrilled to see a fantastic rise in volunteers over the summer months, and we’re incredibly grateful for everyone who joined us. The need continues—our dogs still rely on those regular walks and social interactions to thrive, and with the busy autumn season ahead, your continued support is more important than ever.
Each dog has their own story, and your time can make all the difference.
Take Nicki, for example—he’s a gentle soul who lights up when he gets to stretch his legs and bask in the affection from all the volunteers (cuddles guaranteed!).
Bubba is a beautiful boy, always ready for an adventure and to walk by your side on his walks, a true good boy!
Hero loves making new friends and learning to trust, especially as he is nearly completely blind and relies on his canil best friend Nina to follow.
Then there's Tigre, whose playful nature makes every walk a fun experience - he does expect treats halfway through - who can resist those big brown eyes!?
By volunteering, you're not just giving these dogs exercise; you're helping them become more social, confident, and ready for adoption. Dogs who are well-socialised tend to find their forever homes much easier because they’ve learned to trust people and behave calmly in new situations.
So, if you have the time, come join our friendly volunteer community on Tuesday or Thursday at 9AM, and brighten the whole day for a dog in need. The rewards are endless—for both you and them!
