Bill Foley, owner of Bournemouth, is in negotiations to buy Moreirense. The possibility of moving towards the purchase of the Moreira de Cónegos football club, in the municipality of Guimarães, comes after negotiations for the purchase of Lisbon club Casa Pia did not reach a successful conclusion.
No formal offer has yet been made, but talks have been held with a view to concluding an agreement, according to The New York Times.
Moreirense won the Portuguese League Cup in 2017 and has been in the national first division for most of the last two decades. They are currently in eighth place in the Portuguese championship, after winning 11 points in eight games.
Bill Foley is the managing partner of Black Knight Football Club, the group of investors who purchased Bournemouth in December 2022. A month later, the group acquired a 30% stake in French club Lorient. He later also bought a minority stake in Scottish Premiership team Hibernian and owns 100% of Auckland (New Zealand).
