The districts of Faro and Beja will be under orange warning until 3 pm while Lisbon and Setúbal until 12 pm today.
These four districts are also under yellow warning until 3pm today due to frequent and scattered thunderstorms.
The precipitation forecast for the Algarve led the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) to alert the population of that region on Thursday to episodes of “strong and very frequent” wind and rain that could cause floods and asked that only essential trips should be made.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) also placed the districts of Bragança, Évora, Guarda, Santarém, Leiria, Castelo Branco and Portalegre under yellow warning today due to heavy rain and thunderstorms until 3pm.
The districts of Viseu, Porto, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga are under yellow warning due to rain until 9pm today.
The districts of Évora, Faro, Setúbal, Santarém, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Castelo Branco and Portalegre are again under yellow warning between 3am and 3pm on Saturday due to heavy rain and thunderstorms.
The IPMA also issued a yellow warning due to rain for the north coast, south coast and mountainous regions of the island of Madeira until 9am today.
The north coast of the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo are also under a yellow warning between 12pm on Saturday and midnight on Sunday due to sea unrest, with northwest waves of 4 to 4.5 meters forecast.
The orange warning is issued by IPMA whenever there is a moderate to high risk meteorological situation and the yellow warning when there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
The IPMA predicts for today on the continent generally very cloudy skies, sometimes heavy precipitation accompanied by thunderstorms, strong winds in the highlands and a small increase in the minimum temperature.
Minimum temperatures will range between 11 degrees Celsius (in Guarda and Viseu) and 18 (in Lisbon and Setúbal) and maximum temperatures between 16 (in Guarda and Viseu) and 24 (in Évora, Setúbal and Santarém ).
For the Madeira archipelago, the forecast points to generally very cloudy skies, periods of rain or showers, sometimes strong until late morning, conditions favorable to the occurrence of thunderstorms, moderate to strong wind, sometimes with gusts of up to 60 kilometers per hour, especially in the highlands and a small drop in minimum temperature.
In Funchal temperatures will vary between 22 and 27 degrees and in Porto Santo between 22 and 25 degrees.
