Over the weekend, dozens of fish appeared dead in the river, in Gramido, and, according to the Douro captain, Rui Lampreia, this is the third time this has happened in the location in the Porto district.
Rui Lampreia confirmed that the Maritime Police “are trying to determine the causes of this situation” which, he said, “could have to do with the ash from the fires [which were felt in the last weeks of September] and the heavy rains [ of the following weeks] which have been dragged into the water”.
“Now it’s time to investigate the causes and clean up. There is no evidence of a spill”, he said.
As for cleaning, the Douro manager pointed out that this is being handled by the Gondomar Chamber.
