The activities will span various city locations, including Baixa, Alta and new areas such as Largo da Cruz de Celas, Avenida Calouste Gulbenkian, and the Solum shopping district. The festive lights extend beyond the usual spots, illuminating more areas across Coimbra.

“Magic Land”, a highlight of Coimbra’s Christmas season, will take place at Parque Verde do Mondego, on the left bank of Santa Clara’s Choupalinho area, with a variety of attractions such as 21 amusement rides, three covered and heated food courts, and a giant, illuminated Christmas tree.

Organised by the City Council in collaboration with Vertente Versátil, “Magic Land offers free entry, though rides require tickets. The event also features a Christmas Market with 100 vendors from outside Coimbra to complement the local market held at Praça do Comércio by the União de Freguesias de Coimbra.

In addition, other key elements of the programme include the opening of Cabral Antunes’ Nativity Scene on December 14 at Rua da Sofia, a Christmas charity concert by the Orquestra Clássica do Centro e Coro Essences Voices at Convento de São Francisco on December 21, and a holiday-themed store window contest for local merchants from December 1 to January 6. On December 15, “Santa Claus on Wheels” will bring a classic car exhibition to Praça 8 de Maio and Rua Visconde da Luz.

Returning to the programme is an enhanced videomapping show, promising even more impact than last year, with dates to be announced soon. The main Christmas Market will run from November 29 to December 22 at Praça do Comércio.
