The most recent edition of WebSummit in Lisbon saw a record number of Portuguese start-ups take part in the event, with 125 Portuguese ideas participating. According to Jornal Económico, the start-ups involved have already managed to raise 37 million euros, 176 percent more than the previous year.

Orbipet

Orbipet is a platform that supports those who have pets, as Maria Campinas told The Portugal News. Orbipet offers the possibility of providing “a pet tracking solution” free of charge. Through the website, it is possible to request a QR Code that can be printed and placed on the pet's collar. However, it may also be possible to purchase a tracking plate, which includes the QR Code printout, and place it on a pet's collar as well.

Maria Campinas revealed that the intention is to “add other services and other functions” to the QR Code associated with the animal. The aim is to link it to the animal's vet, as well as to create a network where owners can access appointments they have already booked, for example. It's also in Orbipet's interest to create a community of users that can act as a temporary host family for pet owners when they are on holiday or unable to look after their pet for a variety of reasons, for a certain period.

Although there are already partnerships with public organisations, such as universities, which help to publicise the platform, Maria Campinas says that Orbipet is looking for investment at WebSummit. As she told The Portugal News, getting more partnerships and even investors will allow Orbipet to develop and “become more widespread as soon as possible on a national level.”

Outgoing

Luís Ferreira, at the Outgoing stand, says that it is “a platform for digitising events”, where users can buy tickets for events. Currently with 20,000 users, the platform has already entered the university market and is mainly aimed at “live events that are more party- orientated.”

The app is available for Android and iOS and can be downloaded from the Play Store and Apple Store, respectively.

The Queer Spot

The Queer Spot was launched in January 2024 and aims to “find places and events for the LGBT community.” The app already has a “base of 1,500 users, with an average of 500 active users per week”, according to Roger Júnior.

The app allows users to find spaces aimed at the LGBT community in Portugal, divided into districts and also distributed by subgroups, to ensure that the place users find appeals to anyone within the community. One of the aims is also to facilitate travel planning for queer people, who will be able to find spaces where they can feel safe in the app in a simpler way, as Roger Júnior told The Portugal News. The Queer Spot was present at WebSummit 2024 to expand globally in 2025.

According to Roger Júnior, there are plans to expand to Spain and the UK, but investment is needed to “foster marketing initiatives” aimed at global expansion.

The app is free and can be found in both the Play Store and the Apple Store.

WebSummit 2024 took place in Lisbon from 11 to 14 November and brought together thousands of people, including investors and members of start-ups looking to invest in the best idea that will change the lives of those who use them.
