The strike was called by the National Federation of Workers' Unions in Public and Social Functions (Fesinap) and is included in the general strike of public administration workers.

Taking stock of the situation at 9 am today in front of Hospital Santa Maria, in Lisbon, Elisabete Gonçalves, from the Fesinap executive committee, said that the impact of the strike will be felt “from now on” with the closure of services and care healthcare, such as surgeries and exams, postponed.

“We have already started receiving data in this regard. In other words, we already have consultations closed, as is the case at Hospital de Santa Maria and in Faro and in other hospitals in the Metropolitan region of Lisbon.

Regarding adherence to the strike, between midnight and 8am today, Elisabete Gonçalves indicated that in the Metropolitan area of ​​Lisbon, it was around 85%, in the North 90% and in the Centre 80%.

In the south of the country (Algarve, Beja and Portalegre), it was around 75% to 80%, she said, adding that, “so far, there has been a good response to the strike”.
