She referenced, for example, Martin Luther, who used singing as a powerful tool during the Reformation, as well as the principle of every citizen in a democracy having their voices heard.

The music councils of Germany's federal states have met to decide an instrument of the year ever since 2008, when the title was awarded to the clarinet. Various festivals and concerts have been organised for this year celebrating the human voice, with singing activities being encouraged everywhere in places like schools.
