The Perve Galeria will present a series of paintings and sculptures dating from different periods of his career at the London Art Fair, some created when João Artur da Silva lived in the city, between 1958 and 1978.

According to the gallery, in addition to exhibiting in various galleries and institutions and frequenting artistic circles, during that period he produced hand-printed silk scarves under the brand “Da Silva” which were sold in stores at renowned stores such as Harrods and Liberty.

Born in 1928 in Cascais, João Artur da Silva was part of the group Os Surrealistas along with Mário Cesariny, Cruzeiro Seixas, António Maria Lisboa and Mário Henrique Leiria, among others.

João Artur da Silva, considered the only survivor of the Portuguese surrealist movement of the early 20th century, has lived in Vancouver, Canada, since 1991 where, at the age of 96, he continues to paint daily.

The 37th edition of the London Art Fair, which takes place between January 22nd and 26th, includes 120 galleries from around the world, including 18 international galleries, of which Perve is the only Portuguese one.

During the event dedicated to modern and contemporary art, works by artists such as Alberto Giacometti, Francis Bacon, Bridget Riley and Barbara Hepworth will be on display in various media, including sculpture, prints, paintings, photography, textiles and ceramics.
