This phase of public participation comes after the completion of the first studies of the expansion plan for line 3 of the Metro Sul do Tejo, designed by the working group formed by Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa, the Municipality of Almada and the Lisbon Metro.
The process will be mediated by the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Nova FCT), which will organise, mediate and produce an independent report on citizens' contributions, details in a statement the Metropolitan Transport of Lisbon, the Municipality of Almada and the Lisbon Metro.
The route under study for the extension of MST line 3 will be 7.16 km long, including ten stations: Pêra, Várzea de Pêra (with connection to Funchalinho), Costa da Caparica Center, Costa da Caparica Urban Park, Santo António, São João, São Pedro, Madame Faber/Matas Nacionais, Bombeiros Voluntários da Trafaria and Estação Fluvial da Trafaria.
Furthermore, the project foresees the requalification of public spaces as well as the creation of a route dedicated to active mobility (pedestrian and cycling), linked to the connections planned at the Municipal Cycling Network level.
In July last year, the Minister of Infrastructure said that works to extend the Metro Sul do Tejo to Costa de Caparica and Trafaria should begin within five to seven years. “I would say that within five, six, seven years we could be thinking about works on the ground and rolling stock acquired”, said Miguel Pinto Luz on the sidelines of the signing ceremony of the cooperation protocol for the expansion of the metro to Costa da Caparica and I would cheat.
