The Vale do Côa Archaeological Park (PAVC) has had requalification works in the three main archaeological sites.

These three sanctuaries of the world rock art also had other improvements, with the planting of trees and shrubs.

"These interventions took into account the new phase that is approaching since the reopening to the public of the PAVC is scheduled for 5 April 2021", indicated Aida Carvalho.

When the PAVC reopens, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a new way of visiting the Côa engravings, through horseback riding.

Visits on horseback can be made every day, subject to booking, between February and October, departing from the Visitor Reception Centre of Castelo Melhor, in the municipality of Vila Nova de Foz Côa, district of Guarda.

This new way of visiting the Côa engravings joins others already developed and sought after by visitors, such as those for kayaking, swimming and, starting in June, using a vessel powered by solar energy.

Night visits to the PAVC rock art centres will be maintained and even reinforced, as they are very much sought after by tourists and researchers.

The art of Côa was classified as a National Monument in 1997 and, in 1998, as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
