“People under 60 years of age can: take a second dose of Vaxzevria [new name given to AstraZeneca], with an interval of 12 weeks after the first dose, according to the current recommendation of the European Medicines Agency (EMA ) or wait for new data to be known in relation to the use of a vaccine of another brand, to complete the vaccination schedule ”, states the DGS.
"This decision must be informed, free and clarified, after reading an information leaflet that will be available in due course", adds the document available on the official website of the institution directed by Graça Freitas.
The European agency last week made a second update on its guidelines regarding this vaccine, in which it recommended that people who had been inoculated with the first dose should complete the vaccination schedule with the second dose, since at that time there was " limited information”on the possibility of combining with another of the available vaccines.
However, the DGS is clear about the vaccination schedule for users over the age of 60, for whom it recommends taking the second dose of the vaccine developed by the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford at an interval of 12 weeks after the first dose.
My husband and I are over 70. We live in Sao Martinho Do Porto. We came from California a year ago. My husband is Portuguese by birth. We would like to be vaccinated but we refuse the AstraZeneca. Is Portugal going to deny us the Pfizer or Moderna?? People should have a choice of what is going in their bodies. If Portugal denies us the Pfizer or Moderna, we then are obligated to fly back to the US to be vaccinated there. The other issue is, I do not have an utente #, only my husband as I could not complete my residency through SEF due to the Pandemic. I was told I could not be vaccinated until I get a utente #. We have a home here and I feel that is not a humanly thing to say!! I hope this note reaches someone that cares!!! Thank you for listening! Jeannot Horta
