An analysis of the situation reports of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) shows two clear trends in relation to the number of daily cases of infection by the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the two largest regions, since the entry into force of the fourth and last phase of easing of lockdown phase, on 1 May.
In the first half of the month - between 2 and 16 May-, the North was always the region of Portugal that registered the most cases, varying between a minimum of 86 on the 3rd and a maximum of 181 on the 6th.
As of the 17 May, this trend was reversed and Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with the exception of 20 May, became the region of the country with the highest number of cases notified daily, having registered 175 on 25 May.
Speaking to journalists after a visit to the Vila Franca de Xira Hospital, the government official recalled that the Lisbon metropolitan area had already experienced a similar epidemiological situation at the beginning of last summer and did not rule out a possible setback in the region in the respective rules of easing of lockdown plan.
