According to the schedule released on 16 August by the Equipment Management and Cultural Animation Company (EGEAC) of the Lisbon City Council, responsible for this initiative, Lisboa na Rua opens with a concert “that looks out over the Atlantic from a unique point of view: the Castle of São Jorge”.

This is a show entitled “A Música eo Mundo – Atlantic Sound Meetings”, to watch in the castle, at dusk, with works by Philip Glass and two world premieres by Ângela da Ponte and Vasco Mendonça, performed by Drumming and Stephen Diaz.

This edition of Lisboa na Rua takes up traditions, but “adapting itself to the current context”: the Iberian Mask Festival returns in a new format, with presentations by groups from Asturias, Galicia and Miranda do Douro, in museums and monuments in the city.

The Dançar a Cidade program, which this year focuses on African, Caribbean, Iberian and South American dances, invites everyone to participate in outdoor dance classes or in spaces such as a garden, a library or a museum.

On 29 August there will be African dances at the Jardim da Biblioteca de Alcântara, on 5 September there will be tango classes at the Castelo de São Jorge, on 12 September it is the day of flamenco at the Museum of Lisbon, and on 19 September the dances of Caribbean invade the Puppet Museum.

The magic also returns to the city's streets and gardens, as well as the new circus, with performances by street artists, in an initiative called Chapéus na rua, which is now in its 6th edition and wants to assert itself as "The Lisbon Circus Festival".

The open-air cinema is presented in the garden of the Lisbon Museum – Palácio Pimenta, dealing with the theme of human rights in the world of sport, with films from Iran, Ethiopia, the United States of America and also Portugal: “Offside: Fora -de-Jogo”, by Janar Panahi, “The Athlete”, by Rasselas Lakew, “Back on Board: Greg Louganis”, by Cheryl Furjanic, and “Documento Boxe”, by Miguel Clara Vasconcelos.

It will also be in the garden of Palácio Pimenta that the first show written and staged by the rapper Capicua will take place, “A tralha”, which warns that environmental concerns continue to be urgent and will be on stage between 3 and 5 September.

With body and voice by Tiago Barbosa and some musical interferences by Pedro Geraldes, this show “is an almost monologue about accumulation”, an “essay on waste and obsolescence in the form of a personal narrative”.

This year's edition of Lisboa na Rua also rescues the achievements of Portuguese women who have made a difference in their times, through a cycle of shows “Antiprincesas”, dedicated to the youngest, created by Cláudia Gaiolas, based on the published book collection by Ink-da-china.

The Fuso, created in 2009, will also be present in various locations in the city, from 25 to 29 August, showing video works that cross the visual arts, performance, cinema, literature and digital media.

With regard to music, in addition to the opening concert, there will be other shows, such as “O Conde de Monte Cristo”, by the Orbis Orchestra, inspired by the sound of the movement of water and the work of Alexandre Dumas, or a revisiting of works by Mozart, Hummel, Debussy, Sarasate, Popper and Ruth Crawford, in a musical journey of almost three centuries, by the Gulbenkian Orchestra, under the direction of Martim Sousa Tavares.

Within the scope of Lisboa Soa, on 19 September, a book entitled “Sound Art, Ecology and Hearing Culture: Lisboa Soa 2016-2020” will be released, which brings together the work done over five editions of this festival, with a lot of sound art , but also a series of conversations and texts by artists who participated in the festival.

Following the book launch, there will also be listening sessions and a unique concert in which the guest artists will enter into a dialogue with the sounds that were recorded at Lisboa Soa, remixing them, reinterpreting them and adding other meanings.

Photography is also present at Lisboa na Rua, with an exhibition by Parallel Review Lisboa, which will be on display outside the Alvalade market, from 8 September to 31 Octob, and with a day of photography workshops dedicated to alternative processes such as cyanotype, antotype, luminograms, which take place on 11 September at Palácio Pimenta.
