The drug was hidden in a false bottom of the hold bag carried by the passenger, having been detected through an X-Ray examination and review of the passenger's luggage, according to information provided by the Tax and Customs Authority (AT).
This seizure of 6.5 kilos of cocaine adds to the seizures made by Customs at Humberto Delgado Airport, in Lisbon, on 16 and 28 September and on 8 October, totalling more than 18 kilos of this narcotic.
In all of the incidents, the drug was hidden in a false bottom the suitcase, with the AT adding that the value of the narcotics seized in these four operations could exceed one million euros.
The arrested passenger and the product seized by the AT were handed over to the Judiciary Police, the competent authority for the criminal investigation of drug trafficking.
AT recalls that one of its main responsibilities is the control of goods that, through Portugal, enter the European Union, ensuring not only the collection of taxes and customs duties due, but also the protection and safety of people, namely through combating the trafficking of illicit goods.
