According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), in the last 24 hours 1,074 cases were reported.

The last time Portugal had more than a thousand new cases daily was on September 17, when 1,023 cases were reported.

Regarding hospitalisations, the official bulletin reveals that 384 people are now hospitalised, 12 more than on Tuesday, of which 67 are in intensive care units, plus eight in the last 24 hours.

The nine deaths were registered in the regions of Lisbon (3), Centre (2), the Alentejo (1), the Algarve (2) and the Autonomous Region of the Azores (1).

Four of the victims were over 80 years old, three between 70 and 79, one between 60 and 69 and one between 40 and 49 years old.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated among the elderly over 80 years old (11,889), followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old (3,889).

Of the total number of fatalities registered to date in Portugal, 9,533 were men and 8,647 women.

The data released by the DGS also shows 98 fewer active cases, for a total of 31,938, and that 1,163 people were reported as recovered from covid-19 in the last 24 hours, raising the national total to 1,042,548 recovered.

In the last 24 hours, the number of contacts under surveillance by the health authorities has risen (673), standing at 23,130.

The new coronavirus has already infected in Portugal at least 586,229 women and 505,687 men, according to data from the DGS, according to which there are 750 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, since this information is not provided automatically .

Among the new infections, the age group from 20 to 29 years old (over 171) stands out, followed by 40 to 49 years old (over 157), from 30 to 39 years old (over 156), from 50 to 59 years old (over 130) , from 60 to 69 years (over 120), from 10 to 19 (over 97), from 0 to 9 (over 84), from 70 to 79 (over 81) and from over 80 (over 78).

In the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, 320 new infections were reported, with 421,896 cases and 7,738 dead so far in this geographic area.

The Northern region registered 243 new infections by SARS-CoV-2, totalling 416,723 cases of infection and 5,599 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic crisis.

In the Centre region there were 336 more cases, totalling 147,424 infections and 3,188 deaths.

In the Alentejo, 25 new cases of infection were reported, totalling 40,241 infections and 1,054 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, today's DGS bulletin counts 77 new cases, accumulating 44,154 infections by SARS-CoV-2 and 481 deaths.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded 56 new cases, totalling 12,827 infections and 74 deaths due to the covid-19 disease since March 2020.

In the last 24 hours, and according to DGS, the Azores registered 17 new cases, which raises to 9,401 infections since the beginning of the pandemic and 46 deaths due to the disease.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.
